The 2024 ANTANAS BARANAUSKAS LITERARY PRIZE is awarded to
ALIUS BALBIERIS for the book "I Killed Starfish" (2023)
All of A. Balbieriaus's multifaceted creative activities are related to nature conservation and ecology. Alys Balbieriaus's latest book "I Killed the Sea Stars" (Lithuanian Writers' Union Publishing House) is no exception - it is entirely devoted to the themes of the value of nature, the inseparable connection between man and nature, the fragility of the environment surrounding us, and the need to protect every living creature.
Looking into and listening to the world, to the interaction between nature and man, gives birth to precise, short but very informative texts by Alys Balbieriaus. This is a deep, meaningful book that continues the Lithuanian tradition of natural literature, in which Alice Balbierius "Like no other, it is close to the creative direction illuminated by the spirit of Antanas Baranauskas," reads the draft decision submitted to the Anykščiai District Council.
