The book „What is Contemporary Circus?“ was born from the need to find words for contemporary circus, an art form often described as „unspeakable.“ It explores the history, aesthetics, disciplines, and stereotypes of circus, and raises questions about the place of contemporary circus between tradition and new forms.
The book is written by French sociologist, playwright and director Jean-Michel Guy, who has been researching the circus field in Europe for many years. The publication consists of texts, lectures and insights that invite not only to understand the circus, but also to talk about it.
During the presentation, there will be a conversation about the language of circus, its limits and necessity today.
The book will be presented by one of its creators, artistic director of the international contemporary circus festival "Circulation" Gildas Aleksa, and performing arts producer Monika Citvaraitė-Lansbergienė.
The presentation evening will continue with a screening of the documentary En Équilibre, a look into the life, professional and personal relationships, and challenges of the acrobatic duo.
The Lithuanian edition of the book is presented by the Teatrons association together with the Hubris publishing house.
