About the book:
The novel "Stronger than Fate" reveals the little-known life story of Livija Majorescu-Dimšienė, the mistress of one of the most beautiful Ilzenberg manors in Lithuania, the daughter of the famous Romanian intellectual and politician Tito Majorescu. Former maid of honor of Queen Elizabeth of Romania, Livija Majorescu married the Lithuanian Polish nobleman, engineer Eugenijus Dimša, and after he purchased the Ilzenberg manor, located on the Latvian border, she came to live there.
She spent more than a decade in the manor, surrounded by lakes Ilgis and Apvalas. She endured the threats of the First and Second World Wars, buried her youngest daughter, mother, father, and husband, and survived the exile of her relatives to harsh Siberia. However, despite great trials and often a burden too heavy for women's shoulders, she managed the Ilzenberg manor for many years, taking care not only of the people who worked here and their families, but also of the cultural, social, and Lithuanian-friendly life.
