Will you resist the temptations of Paskalų Square?

From October 24 to 31, all Lithuanian libraries are celebrating MIRKT (Media and Information Literacy) Week. By joining, Anykščiai L. and S. Didžiuliai Public Library is implementing a campaign aimed at developing critical thinking competencies in the Anykščiai community and invites you to participate in activities that will help you more easily recognize disinformation, fraud, and manipulation.

Critical thinking is the most important human shield

Every day we are faced with a huge flow of information – news, social media posts, advertising, artificial intelligence-generated content. It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish where information is based on facts and where it is just opinion. At the same time, fraud, lies and manipulation are increasing. Experts emphasize: the most important protection in the modern world is critical thinking.

Critical thinking helps you assess the reliability of information and make safe decisions both online and in everyday life. Experts point out that anyone can become a victim of fraud – regardless of age, education or experience using technology. We urge you to remain vigilant when receiving unexpected calls, messages or letters asking you to urgently transfer money, reveal login details or click on fake links.

Don't fall victim to cyber scams

Fraudsters use emotions – they rush, scare, or entice you to get rich quick. The Bank of Lithuania reminds us of the basic rule: banks and institutions never ask you to reveal passwords, Smart-ID codes, or transfer money through intermediaries.

Critical thinking starts with a simple act – stopping and thinking. Before you press „share“, invest money or believe a sensational news, it is worth taking a few minutes to verify the information. This is what is becoming the strongest protection against fraud, manipulation and disinformation today.
